In January 2021, my main goal was to image Uranus for the first time and

if this is to happen, make a simulation of its conjunction with Mars on 19/01/2021.

My first goal being achieved, I had to compose this view in order to preserve its memory.

Of course, impossible to get such an image knowing that on January 19 around 7:00 p.m. local time the gap between Uranus and Mars was 1.5°. This view corresponds to about 1' arc sec between the two planets.

Uranus (3.5") on 25/01/2021 and March (8") on 17/01/2021 two days before this favorable conjunction.

Au mois de Janvier 2021, mon objectif principal était d’imager Uranus pour la première fois et

dans l’hypothèse d’y parvenir, faire une simulation de sa conjonction avec Mars le 19/01/2021.

Mon premier objectif étant atteint, il me restait à composer cette vue afin d’en conserver le souvenir.

Bien sûr, impossible d’obtenir une telle image sachant que le 19 Janvier vers 19h00 locales l’écart entre Uranus et Mars était de 1,5°. Cette vue correspond à environ 1’ arc sec entre les deux planètes.

Uranus (3,5“) le 25/01/2021 et Mars (8“) le 17/01/2021 deux jours avant cette conjonction favorable.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
